Residents protest construction of road

SAS NAGAR, Nov 17: The residents of Phase-IV and V are up in arms against the construction of a link road through the green belt to ITI in Phase-V of the township.

The residents, under the banner of SAS Nagar Welfare Council, today met the PUDA chief S.C. Aggarwal and lodged their protest over the ongoing construction activities. While demanding withdrawal of the labour, the residents apprised the PUDA chief that the green belt, through which the road was proposed, was the only park in the area where the residents could organise social functions.

The Council general secretary A.S. Shayan told Newsline that green belts were provided in 1940-41 and 1960-61 when the plots for constructing dwelling units were allotted.

The cost of green belts were recovered from them, he said and added, quot;Since green patches were provided at the initial stage so this facility can not be snatched from the residentsquot;.
