Patiala: Glowing tributes were paid to Kamala Gupta, wife of veteran journalist Bhagwandass Gupta, special correspondent of the Observer of business and politics, at the bhog and antim ardas organised in the Ram Lila grounds here today.
Mishap
Moga: PSEB chief engineer Vishwanath Sharma, posted at the Lehra Mohhabat thermal plant, was seriously injured while his wife, Usha, and driver Jaswant Singh were killed on the spot when the Maruti car in which they were travelling collided head-on with a Tata Sumo near Badhnikalan on the Moga-Barnala road, on Thursday. The couple were on their way to Jalandhar. The driver of the Sumo also sustained injuries in the collision.
Event
Ludhiana: The North Zone inter-varsity Youth Festival began at Punjab Agricultural University campus today. S.K. Ahluwalia, director, North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, inaugurated the Festival. Fifteen teams took part in the inauguration ceremony and more than 600 students are participating in 21 events, according to M.S. Bajwa, director, Students8217; Welfare. The closing ceremony will be held on December 1.
Condemnation
Patiala: The Punjab Languages Department has condemned the killing of Punjabi writer and editor of Indo-Canadian Times, Tara Singh Hayer. The director of the Department, Dr Madan Lal Hasija, said that Hayer never compromised on his professional ethics and worked for strengthening brotherhood among different communities. The editor of Punjabi magazine Jagriti, Ujjagar Singh, has also condemned Hayer8217;s killing and termed it a cowardly act.
Camp
Patiala: A yoga and meditation camp was inaugurated at Veer Haqiqat Rai Modern Senior Secondary School in Shivpuri Mandir, Rajpura Colony, by Sukhwinder Khanna, Commissioner, Income Tax, Patiala, on Thursday. The camp is being organised under the aegis of the Yoga Sadhna Trust International, Haridwar. The valedictory function will be held on November 29.
Dharna
Patiala: The Punjab State Electricity Board Mulazam Sangharsh Committee will organise a dharna in front of the PSEB head office on December 2 to press for their demands. In a statement, committee general secretary Surinderjit Singh Walia said the board authorities had failed to announce the new cadre-wise pay-scales for employees and was still undecided on time-bound scales. He said the Board was trying to delay a decision on the issue by forming the wage formulation committee, which, he alleged, had failed to sort out the problems faced by employees.
Workshop
Amritsar: The Surgeons8217; Society, Amritsar, would organise a workshop on laproscopic surgery on November 28. According to a press release, K S Panesar, Chief Surgeon, London Derry, Ireland, would give a live demonstration of laproscopic surgery.
