PATIALA, March 3: The Patiala Kotwali Police here today registered a case under sections 452//427/148 and 149 IPC against 25 persons in connection with the ransacking of the Town Hall in the Municipal Corporation Office on Monday morning.

According to police sources, most of those named in the case were women. A complaint has been lodged with the police by J. S. Punia, executive officer of the corporation.

The sources said that those named in the FIR included Kantarani, Surjit Kaur, Asha Rani, Reema, Darshana, Maya Devi, Shammi, Salma, Leelawanti, Santosh Rani, Harpal Kaur, Sudha, Laxmi, Dial Singh, Kusum, Neelam, Pushpa Rani, Madhu, Nand Rani, Raji, Neelam, Neetu Rani, Nirmala, and Sudhan.

It may be mentioned here that on Monday, a mob agitating against the erratic water supply, stormed into the historical Town Hall of the corporation and smashed window panes and broke the chairs and tables. The women employees of the corporation, kept the mob locked in the hall. On the intervention of some former MCs, the matter was sorted out and the mob was let off.

Sources said that a compromise was reached that the mob, especially women, would pay Rs 500 to meet the loss caused by the ransacking.

Harkesh Singh Sidhu, commissioner, said that though the corporation is bound to provide better basic facilities to the people, nobody could play with the law or create a nuisance. He claimed that the water supply had become normal.
