
India has sought the intervention of the US government in the case of Ranbaxy Laboratories, which is fighting charges of fraudulent misconduct, levelled by the US Department of Justice DoJ, in the district court of Maryland.
8220;Since this is an important issue concerning a leading Indian company, I would solicit your intervention and request you to have the matter resolved at the earliest,8221; chemicals and fertiliser minister Ram Vilas Paswan wrote to US Health Department secretary Micheal O Leavitt.
Paswan said Ranbaxy had for years been providing high-quality generic medicines to countries across the world. Assuring that Ranbaxy has not been involved in any 8216;wrongdoing8217;, Paswan said: 8220;The company is fully prepared to cooperate with US authorities and anxiously awaits an amicable resolution of its issues with the FDA and the DoJ.8221;
Seeking support from external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee, Paswan, in another letter, asked the ministry to take up the matter with the US counterparts.
8220;I would request you to kindly have this matter followed up by the Indian embassy in the US on priority to facilitate an earlier resolution of the matter,8221; Paswan said.
Paswan said that Ranbaxy CEO and MD Malvinder Singh had informed him that the company is not engaged in any wrongdoing with respect to the products or filings made in the US and has been supplying all desired information to the US authorities.
