A local court granted interim bail till December 24 to R. C. Gupta, director-cum general manager commercial of pharmaceutical major Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd who was arrested on Friday in an alleged fraud case. The court issued bailable warrants against Gupta following his refusal to accept summons by the court on a complaint of fraud registered against him under various sections of ipc. The local police arrested him on Friday night from his New Delhi residence. In his complaint, Surinder Kumar Kakkar, proprietor of National Pharma Distributor, Ambala Cantonment, and National Finance Company, Karnal, alleged that Gupta had accepted a 8216;gift8217; of Rs 3 lakh to extend the carry-and-forward contract of Ranbaxy with his firm for the third time and he had paid Rs 5 lakh to renew the contract for the fourth time. The complainant alleged that the first amount was paid through demand draft in favour of Shashi Gupta, the daughter of Gupta. PTI
