In a rare privilege given to the head of an Indian state in recent times, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje rang the closing bell at NASDAQ and addressed a luncheon meeting at the Asia Society.

During her 10-day US tour, which concluded today, Raje met Microsoft chairman Bill Gates and signed a memorandum of understanding for computer education in schools and IT transformation in her state.

She also interacted with the mainstream corporate figures and NRIs seeking fresh ideas, new technologies and foreign funds to transform Rajasthan from a backward to one among the frontline states. She got immediate support from non-resident Rajasthanis. The NRR — as Raje called them — presented her cheques worth $350,000 (over Rs 1.5 crore) for various developmental projects and welfare measures in Rajasthan like mid-day meal and women empowerment.
