The Rajasthan Police have compiled a list of licence holders and dealers, who have procured explosives and detonators from the Dholpur-based Rajasthan Explosives and Chemicals Limited (RECL) factory.
The move comes a day after the Surat police found that the detonators used in the 23 bombs recovered from Surat and defused were from the RECL’s Dholpur factory in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district. Incidentally, while the Surat bombs used detonators from RECL, the bombs used in the Ahmedabad and Jaipur terror strikes were made in factories in Andhra Pradesh.
Rajasthan Director General of Police (DGP) K S Bains said, “We have received information from the Gujarat Police about the detonators and have started looking into it. We are trying to compile a log of all those who purchased detonators from RECL in the recent past.” When contacted, RECL authorities said they had a list of licensed dealers who had procured detonators from them in the recent past.
However, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Special Operations Group (SOG) A Pannuchamy, who is investigating the Jaipur serial blasts, said tracing the detonators was an uphill task. “There are several license holders in Rajasthan itself, let alone the country. But we are trying to determine who could have procured the detonators from RECL,” Ponnuchamy said. “We will soon contact all explosive license holders and check their records for anomalies.
