
BANGALORE, JUNE 19: Commonwealth gold medallist Satish Rai of Bank Sports Board smashed three records and stole the thunder at the 51st men and 14th women Senior National weight-lifting championship here today.
Rai cleared 145.5 in snatch, 183 in jerk to total 328.5. in the 77 kg category. However, for record purposes it would be 145 in snatch, 182.5 in jerk and the total would be 327.5. K D Mondal Services finished second and was followed by Shivaraj FCI.
In the 85 kg for men, Paramjit Singh Services clinched the gold with a snatch of 142.5 and a jerk of 170. Tejinder Singh Police won the silver. N Dhananjayan Tamil Nadu won the bronze.
Rai called for 132.5 kg in snatch and lifted it with ease. In the second, he increased it by 7.5 kg and cleared without much ado. In a bid to create a record, he asked for 145.5 and lifted it. The Indian standard record was 145 kg. He also bettered his one-year-old mark when he lifted 183 kg in jerk. Starting with 172.5 kg, he cleared 183 in the second. Butcould not clear 187.5 kg in the final attempt. He also eclipsed the Indian standard mark of 325 kg in total.
Nitu Sharma Delhi, with a snatch of 127.5 and jerk of 160, collected gold in the Inter-State category. Rajinder Singh Punjab lifted 120 in snatch and 162.5 in jerk and was tied with R Premkumar Tamil Nadu. By virtue of lesser bodyweight, the Punjab lifter got silver. Darshan Lal Uttar Pradesh, with a snatch of 130 and jerk of 160, and S Mohd Javed of Andhra Pradesh with 122.5 kg and 150 kg finished third.
