Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh has written to all the Chief Ministers to start special drives for implementing land reforms.

He has asked the states, in a letter written on November 21, to implement land reforms as per the deliberations of the National Integration Council Meeting held on August 31 to reinvigorate implementation of land reform programmes, an official release said.

The minister stressed the need for conferring the ceiling surplus land, Bhoodan land and Government wasteland to the landless and homeless rural poor, the release added. He also took up the matter of restoration of land to the tribals and providing equal ownership rights over land to women. He had initially written to the states on June 29 but only a few states have responded so far, said the release.
