
CHANDIGARH, July 22: Last year8217;s runners-up Rapid Action Force RAF, Delhi scored a facile 15-4, 15-3, 15-4 victory over Northern Sector in their second league encounter in the 8th Inter-Sector Central Reserve Police Force CRPF volleyball tournament at 121 Battalion ground, Hallomajra here today.
RAF with the win today are virtually assured of a berth in the knock out stage which would begin day after tomorrow. The other team to make it to the quarterfinals is title holder North West Zone NWZ. The strong NWZ team has also won all their league match played so far in the meet with a commanding margin.
In the match today, between RAF and NS, the former dominated the proceeding and did not allow the rivals to catch up. Dharambir and Rakesh Kumar were the main architect of the team8217;s win today. The duo were equally good in the defence as well in attack.
In another match of the day, Western Sector outplayed Jammu and Kashmir Sector 15-2, 15-8, 15-3 to keep in contention for the title.
However, the most exciting match of the day was between North East Sector and Special Sector. Both the teams were equally balanced. But the formerwho had a tough time beating Bihar Sector in their league encounter yesterday, were consistent in their performance which enabled them to score win over their spirited opponents. While Special Sector were unable to sustain their efforts. The players were erratic in blocks and fumbled at back court.
In the last match of the day Nagaland/Manipur Sector beat Centre Sector 15-5, 15-2, 15-7.
Nabha soccer NATIONAL Football Club, Nabha will organise the 23rd All India Gurdarshan Singh Memorial football tournament at Nabha from September 27 to October 4.
According to Sukhchain Singh Grewal, president of the club, the dates of the tourney have been approved by the Indian Football Federation.
Thirty teams from various parts of the country are expected to participate. These include JCT mills, Phagwara, BSF, Punjab Police, PSEB, Ludhiana Police, CC Dehradoon, Hoshiarpur Police, NEI, Jaipur, Chandigarh Police, RCF, HSEB, CI Rajkot, Punjab University, PNB Delhi, Delhi Police, Heroes Ambala and Indian Air Force, Delhi.
