
COLOMBO, June 16: The LTTE executed 11 commandos of the special task force STF after capturing them in an ambush attack near Thampitiya last night, while unconfirmed reports said the rebels were holding few more policemen as hostages at its base camp at Illupattichennai, about 20 km from eastern Batticaloa. Sources from Batticaloa said the rebels had handed over 11 bodies of STF personnel so far to the International Red Cross today, adding all the 11 were shot dead from point blank range.

NEW DELHI: NN Vohra, a retired IAS officer, has been appointed principal secretary to Prime Minister IK Gujral with effect from July 1, 1997. Vohra, who had been the Union Home and Defence secretary, has been looking after the affairs of the India International Centre as its director, since his retirement. He will function as an Officer on Special Duty.

The clergy directed the Sikhs all over the world to boycott them socially.
