Passenger killed in Bihar train dacoity

LAKHISARAI(BIHAR): One person was killed and two injured when miscreants raided a bogie of Kiul-Gaya passenger train near Warsaliganj station in the eastern railway’s Danapur division on Saturday. Railway police on Sunday said the criminals who boarded the train at Warsaliganj tried to rob the passengers. When resisted, they opened fire, killing one and injuring two, before escaping under the cover of darkness. An FIR had been registered.

RSP leader dead

CALCUTTA: Leading Marxist thinker and Revolutionary Socialist Party leader Dr Buddhadev Bhattacharya died following a massive heart attack at his residence here on Sunday morning. He was 68. He is survived by his wife and a son. He will be cremated on Monday.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has issued show cause notices to Bennett Coleman and Company chairman Ashok Jain on a joint application by the central government and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seeking dismissalof the media baron’s plea. Jain had moved the HC seeking directions to stop the ED from conducting investigations against him in an alleged FERA violation case and for returning the documents seized by the ED during a search on Jan 4 last year.

DHAKA: The Bangladesh Supreme Court, quashing the 1990 high court verdict, on Sunday declared illegal the detention order of former president Hussain Mohammed Ershad, court officials said.

Pak MP attacked

LAHORE: Five people, including two police guards, were gunned down and 12 others were critically injured on Sunday when unidentified assailants ambushed Pakistani ruling party deputy Sarwar Bochh’s jeep in Punjab province. Bochh was critically injured in the attack.
