
Bongirwar is new CS
MUMBAI: The state government today appointed Arun Bongirwar, a 1966 batch officer, as chief secretary replacing P Subrahmanyam. Bongirwar8217;s appointment is likely to attract controversy as he supersedes two seniors, V Ranganathan 1965 batch and K C Srivastava 1966. Senior officials said both these officers might be accommodated at the Centre. Subrahmanyam had sought the intervention of Bal Thackeray not to displace him. Sources said the chief minister asked him to proceed on leave.
400 fishermen feared dead
RAJKOT/BHUJ: About 400 fishermen who had sailed out in 82 boats from different ports of Saurashtra, South Gujarat and Diu last week are feared killed as frantic efforts by government agencies failed to locate them five days after a cyclone brushed past Kutch, Junagadh, Jamnagar and Porbandar last Thursday.
Guru Hanuman dead
NEW DELHI: The patriarch of Indian wrestling and Dronacharya awardee, Guru Hanuman, died in a road mishap this morning at Meerut,60 km from here. The 99-year-old guru was on his way to Hardwar.
