Agni II test shelved, Pinaka fired

BALASORE: The proposed test fire of extended range surface to surface Agni II intermediate range ballistic missile has been postponed till further orders. However, the indigenously-built multi-barrel rocket launcher Pinaka was successfully test-fired from the interim test range at Chandipur-on-sea today. Preparations are also on for the test fire of Dhanush from ITR soon.Mantralaya meet on Bhayander MUMBAI: THERE8217;s some good news for Bhayander residents. Thane District Guardian Minister Diwakar Raote has called an urgent meeting of senior officials on Saturday morning at Mantralaya to discuss the problem. Raote, who again visited Bhayander today, told residents that he had asked the officials to hire as many water tankers as required daily and added that the Council must make budgetary provisions to purchase 25 water tankers.

Unions join hands

MUMBAI: Four textile mill unions boasting of a combined strength of 60,000 have decided to join hands and workfrom a common platform against, among other things, the impending move to allow sale of surplus mill land. The four outfits believe that the officially recognised trade union, Rashtriya Mill Mazdoor Sangh, 8220;does not represent the workers interests.8221;

Bhagwat plea

NEW DELHI: Delhi High Court today dismissed a petition challenging the sacking of Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat as Navy Chief, saying it was not 8220;maintainable8221; as the affected person had not come forward to seek redressal of any grievance.

Shaktimaan case

NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court has issued notices to the Director General of Doordarshan and its controller of programmes on a petition seeking an interim order for continuation of serial Shaktimaan. Justice M K Sharma also issued summons to a news agency on a defamation suit for allegedly publishing quot;incorrectquot; news about the effect of the programme on children.
