JMM case judgment

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved judgment in the JMM MPs bribery case in which former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao and 18 other politicians have been named as accused by the prosecution. Concluding his submissions on behalf of the CBI, Attorney General Ashok Desai contended that Article 105 (2) gave protection for MPs only for vote given and speech made and not for offences of bribery for which the persons have been accused.

Sudan plane crash

CAIRO: Sudan Vice President Major General Al-Zubair Mohammed Saleh was killed along with some top officials on Thursday when their plane crashed in southern Sudan, the Khartoum government announced. The officials were on a two-day visit to southern Sudan, where Animist and Christian rebels are fighting for autonomy from Muslim-dominated government in the north.

CUTTACK: Eminent journalist and freedom fighter, Dr Radhanath Rath, died in the early hours of Thursday at his Gopabandhu Bhavanresidence here. Rath was the editor of the largest circulated Oriya daily, the Samaj, from 1961 till his death without any interruption.

Azhar case

JAMSHEDPUR: The hearing into the case of Indian cricket skipper Mohammad Azharuddin for his alleged defamatory comments against the people of Bihar has been adjourned till March 4. FCJM Lalit Prakash Chowbey adjourned the case as the accused did not turn up nor was any lawyer represented on his behalf before the court here on Thursday.
