
Iraq asks UN to recall Americans, Britons
In a one-page memorandum to the world body, Iraq urged replacement of US and British UN aid workers. Reacting to Iraq8217;s decision in Washington, US State Department spokesman James Rubin said he understood the measure was temporary and the numbers involved small.
Laloo bail
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court today reserved orders till January 7 on the bail pleas of Rashtriya Janata Dal president and former Bihar chief minister Laloo Prasad Yadav and five others in the Rs 950 crore fodder scam case. The order was reserved after the judges heard arguments of the CBI and counsel for the accused.
Blast near Nagpur
NAGPUR: Two persons were killed and six others injured when a cryogenic steel valve burst last evening at an industrial unit at Hingna on the outskirts of the city, police said. The accident occurred at Neco Schubert and Salzer Limited, when the valves were being tested by dipping them in sump containing liquid nitrogen and liquid methylene and passing helium gas under high pressure through them. Of the injured, three persons, including the deputy general manager of the unit, were in critical condition.
Ultras kill teacher
AGARTALA: A school teacher was killed and six others kidnapped by suspected insurgents of the All-Tripura Tiger Force at Kanurampara on the outskirts of the city today. The police said an armed group of insurgents stopped a passenger jeep at Kanurampara at gunpoint and kidnapped seven persons.
Buried alive
CUDDALORE: Six labourers who were digging a well in a sandy stretch, were buried alive as the well caved in at Kattamuthupalayam in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu today. Fire service personnel and the police are extricating the bodies, according to police.
