Six gunned down by Bodos
GUWAHATI: Six persons were shot dead and as many injured, three of them seriously, when Bodo militants fired on them in lower Assam8217;s Dhubri district on Thursday night. Official reports said at least 10 militants fired on the hapless victims who had gone to the Tipkai reserve forest, 14 km away from Bogribari police station, to collect firewood. Four died on the spot and the rest succumbed to their injuries on the way to a hospital.
ISI bid foiled
JAMMU: A plan by Pakistan8217;s Inter-Services Intelligence ISI to blow up the holy shrine of Peerbaba near Jammu airport and kill scores of devotees was foiled with the arrest of one of its agents on Thursday, police said. Darshan Lal of Bori area of Jammu city, from whom three powerful Chinese-made H-36 grenades were recovered, confessed to interrogators that he was planning to blow up the shrine. He was assigned the task by the ISI recently, police said. Lal was carrying the grenades in a bag when police acting on atip-off arrested him near the shrine in the evening. AAI clarifies AHMEDABAD: The Airports Authority of India has said that the two radars which Union Home Minister L K Advani dedicated to the nation here on July 12 were not old radars that had already been commissioned.

HYDERABAD: Twenty-one persons were injured in communal violence in Anantpur district of Andhra Pradesh on Friday. According to police, the assailants belonging to one community armed with lethal weapons raided houses belonging to the other community near Bommanapally village and beat up the inmates injuring 21 of them. The victims were all sympathisers of Naxalites of the Janashakti group.
