Darbara Singh is dead

NEW DELHI: Rajasthan Governor and veteran politician Darbara Singh died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences here following a heart attack. Singh, 71, is survived by his wife and six daughters. Singh, who took over as Rajasthan Governor on May one, was admitted to AIIMS on Friday following chest pain. He suffered cardiac arrest this morning and all efforts to resuscitate him proved futile.

Rape case

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government today handed over to the CBI investigations into the alleged gang rape and abduction of a woman, Chief Minister Bhairon Singh Shekhawat said. The woman, who was allegedly raped in a room of the JC Bose Hostel of Rajasthan University nine months ago, was again allegedly abducted and raped by three to four masked men in a Maruti van from a locality here with her hands and legs tied on Friday.

Bangla clashes

CALCUTTA: At least 22 persons were injured in separate incidents of pre-poll clashes in South24 Parganas district since yesterday. Two persons were injured when a CPI-M procession was attacked allegedly by Trinamool Congress supporters near Satgachia in the district today, police said. The procession was coming to Bakrahat near Bishtupur to attend an election rally which was addressed by Chief Minister Jyoti Basu.
