The report of the fact-finding committee hints at several questionable deals concerning the financial matters of the Christian Medical College and Hospital CMCHS Society,8221; said CMCHS chairman Dr Rajinder Giani on Friday.
The six-member fact-finding committee was constituted on March 14 at an emergency Governing Body meeting to investigate the role of the previous management, headed by former CMCH director Dr John Pramod, in some institutional matters. A private firm had been hired to look into the alleged financial irregularities.
8220;We had received complaints about the previous management from two organisations. One was the CMC Sangharsh Samiti and the other was a group of senior faculty members of the institute,8221; said Dr Giani.
8220;Some decisions taken by the previous director are definitely questionable. The matter of taking a loan of Rs 60 lakh for a hostel is clearly wrong. Also, an architect, who is Dr Pramod8217;s father-in-law, was hired at Rs 75,000 per month8212; this salary cannot be justified,8221; he added.
Investigations are still on as the committee is yet to go through some documents allegedly withheld by a few management members in an effort to obstruct scrutiny. 8220;The Wolkhardt Heart Centre project was scrapped 8212; the hospital has been drawn into legal hassles now as Wolkhardt has filed a case and the matter is subjudice. The Regional Cancer Centre project was abandoned by the House as we could not find the MoU that had been signed in that regard,8221; said Dr Giani, hinting at non-cooperation of the members.
Asked about the present financial status of the hospital, he said the institute was doing better than before. 8220;CMCH has been able to clear most of its debt and revenue has also increasedm,8221; said Dr Giani.
On the other hand, Dr John Pramod had answers for all allegations. 8220;The loan was clearly not for myself, but to provide accommodation to the students of Post Graduation and Dental College. Even now, students are residing in that very hostel. The loan amount was to be repaid in installments and will be recovered easily.8221;
8220;On the architect issue, I would like to clarify that my father-in-law was hired by the previous director. I only allowed his services to continue. Also, the money paid to him was to be adjusted in the final fee for various projects, as agreed upon earlier,8221; he said.
He added that the committee was given full co-operation in the investigation. 8220;I possess no documents,8221; he said.
