
PATIALA, Jan 4: The Punjab Government has decided to construct sports stadiam in the state under a plan to encourage the culture of sports, said Finance and Planning Minister Capt Kanwaljit Singh.
Addressing a gathering while presiding over a prize distribution function of a sports mela at Nudiali village near Banur, he said that the state government would provide all type of equipment required for the practice purposes for sportspersons in the rural areas.
Capt Kanwaljit Singh added that to promote the sports culture in the rural areas, the state government was also encouraging the setting up of sports clubs at the village-level and providing these clubs financial assistance.
The Punjab Finance Minister announced a grant of Rs. 25,000 for Shahid Kartar Singh Sarabha Sports Club which organised this mela and also donated sports-related equipment of the same amount to the club.
Earlier, the minister also laid the foundation stone for pucca roads and side channels of the village.
