CHANDIGARH, Jan 25: Prithipal Singh Virk, secretary general of the Gymnastic Federation of India, has been appointed chef-de-mission of the 510-member Punjab contingent which will take part in the fifth National Games to be held at Manipur from February 14 to 25.

In an unsigned press release issued here today, Punjab Olympic Association secretary general Arvind Khanna said Gurcharan Singh Sarao would be the deputy chef-de-mission and Brig K S Brar and Raman Kalia would act as administrator and Public Relations Officcer, respectively. Punjab would take part in 26 disciplines out of 27. Khanna said “it will be gratifying to note that Punjab has been declared eligible to participate in all the events.”

The Punjab sportspersons are attending coaching camps in various cities of the state.

City women win gold
Chandigarh women coxless pair won first position in 500-metre in the open category in the fifth sprint and first sub-junior national rowing regatte held recently at Pune.

But the City sub-junior boys team were not lucky as Novjot Singh finished fourth in single scull event.

MCM sports meet
MCM DAV College, Sector 36, will organise their annual sports day on January 29 at college premises from 2 p.m. Chief guest on the occasion would be Kapil Dev, former skipper of the Indian cricket team.
