PUNE, May 5: Pune district bagged the general championship in the two-day sports meet for the handicapped held at the Wadia Park grounds here from May 1 to 2. The Nagpur team was given the runners-up award while the Mumbai team finished with third position. The meet was jointly organised by the Mahaveer Vikalang Seva Samiti here and the Pune-based Para Olympic Sanghatana.

An Ahmednagar based sportsman Vilas Davane was awarded the Maharashtra Strong Man award for his performance during the weight lifting and tricycle race. About 500 sportspersons from across the State participated in the meet. Pune eves dominated the 5.5 km tricycle race with Sushila Jadhav, Asha Aglave and Sujata Wakchoure finishing first, second and third respectively. The men’s race was won by Ashok Koli from Jalgaon. Davane finished second followed by Balwant Navale from Pune.

Young Tayabi win
Kaid Electricwalla (132) and Athisher Merchant (106) enabled Young Tayabi Club inflict a 101-run defeat over Janata Sahakari Bank, in the Poona District Cricket Association Summer League limited overs cricket, here today. Young Tayabi, thus, aided by the two three-figure marks managed to post the best total of the eight-match schedule – with 285 for the loss of three wickets at the end of their innings.
