PUNE, Oct 11: A Pune Declaration, outlining a science and technology policy for India in the coming decade will be drafted at the Indian Science Congress (ISC) from January 3 to 7, 2000, announced Dr R A Mashelkar, director general Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) speaking at the University of Pune on October 6.

About 5000 scientists are expected to converge at the ISC hosted by the University, which will discuss a five-point millennium India agenda, emerging frontiers of science and technology in the 21st century, intellectual property rights in 21st century India, building 21st century innovative India and building the 21st century Indian knowledge industry.

The University of Pune will be hosting the ISC for the third time, with Vice-Chancellor Dr Arun Nigavekar the chairman of the organising committee and Dr Mashelkar general president of the ISC 2000. The Bharati Vidyapeeth (deemed university) and National Chemical laboratory (NCL) are co-hosts.
