PCMC corporator fined for ticketless travel
The standing committee of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation was today adjourned over action by a Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Transport checker who recovered penal fine from Shiv Sena corporator Suryakant Dalvi for ticketless travel.
As the issue was raised during the meeting, a section of Congress members demanded action against the checker alleging that he had abused the corporator who had agreed to pay the fine while travelling from Pune to Nigdi on Sunday night.
While PCMT manager Amrutrao Savant asked for more time to initiate an inquiry into the incident, Shamim Pathan of the Congress alleged that despite submitting the receipts of the penal fine, no action had been taken against the checker.
Although a few Congress members said the PCMT administration be given more time, Pathan stuck to her demand for immediate action.
During the heated debate that followed, Congress members walked out of the meeting.
Chairman Suryakant Thorat adjourned the meeting until Thursday.
Whether corporators can travel free by the PCMT buses is now being verified by the PCMT office.
