PCB razing encroachmentsThe Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) has undertaken a concerted drive to remove encroachments on public lands, footpaths, roadside beams inside the cantonment area with its encroachment squad in action for the last fortnight.In a statement issued here, cantonment executive officer J Sharma stated that the cantonment board had already informed the public about the drive through a public notice issued in the month of December last year in various newspapers. Thereafter the cantonment board staff through the public address system advised all concerned to remove the encroachments whether it was a temporary shed, handcart, projections on footpaths or even placing articles for sale, he said.However the response was not encouraging, the road sides, footpaths and chowks on various roads were found to be occupied unauthorisedly by various means by different persons for various purposes, the CEO said.Explaining that the public was put to a lot of inconvenience with handcarts placed at various places selling fruits and eatables, Sharma said that the cantonment board will continue this drive for the next few days.He also advised the concerned persons to store goods in their business premises and remove all projections on footpaths. Sharma also made it clear that items once confiscated will not be returned by the cantonment board.
