No power as thieves lift transformer parts
The residents of Deccan College road area went without power supply for hours together from Sunday afternoon, following theft of some key spares of a power transformer in the area.

According to MSEB officials, parts of oil circuit breaker of the transformer were stolen by some unidentified miscreants from the Board8217;s old station in the vicinity of the Deccan College.

The supply was disrupted after the parts were removed, the Board officials said. The Board officials however avoided a comment over the handiwork of the spares remover and whether the supply was on when the theft was reported.

Apparently, the theft was discovered after the local MSEB complaint office was flooded with the telephone calls from irate citizens. The power supply had not been restored in the area till late in the evening.

Thieves also pinch PMT bus
In an unusual incident of theft, a Pune Municipal Transport mini bus worth Rs five to seven lakhs was stolen from Swargate depot of the PMT on Friday night.

The DCM Toyota make8217; vehicle was part of PMT8217;s mini bus fleet bought about eight years ago to ply on Sinhagad route and ferried passengers on a Sinhagad Darshan8217; trip.

The theft came to light on Saturday morning and a police complaint was lodged late in the evening at Swargate police station, said sources.

Bus route cancelled
The Pune Municipal Transport PMT authorities have decided to cancel the bus service on route number 287 from Kothrud Depot to Gultekdi Market Yard and back with effect from June 21 owing to poor response from the passengers, according to an official press note.
