Sena humbles BJP in PCMC ward electionPratik Shankar Zhumbare of the Shiv Sena was on Monday elected corporator from ward 31 (Central Institute of Road Transport) of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). He defeated Rambhau Ganpat Vairage of the Bharatiya Janata Party by a margin of 367 votes.With Zhumbare's election, the strength of the civic general body has been restored to 84 including five co-opted corporators. The seat was lying vacant since March 20 after the death of independent corporator Anil Hegde. The voting was held yesterday.Zhumbare secured 780 votes as against 413 secured by Vairage. Laxman Gaikwad of Republican Party of India (RPI) was third with 380 votes. There were nine candidates in the fray. Of the 2230 votes polled, 30 were invalid. The ward has been reserved for backward class.Man dies aboard busMystery shrouds the death of a 35-year-old passenger on board an State Transport bus going to Pandharpur from Shapur in Thane district.The identity of the passenger has not been ascertained. The post mortem report is awaited, the police said.The man, who boarded the bus at Shahapur on November 26 night, started writhing in his seat as the bus approached Pune. He was shifted to a hospital when the bus reached Mohan Nagar in Pimpri. However, he died before he could be admitted.The police found the case paper, issued by Lokmanya Tilak Hospital, Sion on him. The case paper had the name of Shakil Ahmed Munir. No address was mentioned.Contractor heldThe Khadak police on Monday arrested building contractor Samir Shah, site supervisor Hiten Shah and petty contractor Jagan Baroi in connection with the death of a centering contractor at a construction site in Guruwar Peth.The police had filed an FIR accusing the trio of ``negligence towards the safety of labourers and causing centering carpenter Sunil Baroi's death'' late last evening.They said the trio had informed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) that the wall of the dilapidated building could cave in. However, they started constructing the new building without waiting for the PMC's action on it.
