Kidnapper, girl found dead in a wellThe alleged kidnapping of a seven-year-old girl from Guruwar Peth area by an acquaintance on November 23 turned tragic on Sunday as the decomposed bodies of both the victim and the suspected kidnapper were found in a well atop the Parvati hills.The bodies of Smita alias Sonali Satkar, the daughter of a wholesale vegetable trader residing at Indiranagar and her alleged abductor Sandip Ramchandra Salunke were found floating in the well last afternoon.On being tipped off by an anonymous telephone caller, the Swargate police pulled the bodies out of the well and filed a case of accidental death. The Khadak police, who were searching for the duo, took their relatives to the Sassoon hospital morgue this morning. The relatives identified the bodies as those of Smita and Sandip.Smita and her mother had gone to her aunt's place in Guruwar Peth on November 23 when the girl was abducted. Smita's aunt had lodged a first information report at the Phadgate police chowki alleging that Sandip, who had also visited her on the day, kidnapped Smita.Youth robbedA 23-year-old youth residing at Satkar Vasti hamlet in Khed taluka was abducted and robbed by three knife wielding unidentified men late on Friday night.The victim, Deepak Bhanudas Satkar, has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Khed police station.In his FIR, Deepak has stated that he was abducted while returning home from Khed late on Friday night. Deepak was walking down the road linking Khed with Manchar when the unidentified youths, travelling in a Tata Sumo, intercepted him.The FIR said the three youths whisked away Deepak in their Tata Sumo and relieved him of his wrist watch, a gold chain and some cash. Later, they released him in a ghat.Water closureAreas receiving water from the Padmavati Pumping Station will remain dry on Monday as Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has undertaken repair of the water pipeline. According to the PMC's water supply department, Bibvewadi, Gultkedi, Marketyard, Indiranagar, Dhankawadi, Katraj and Padmavati will not receive water on Monday. The supply will be resumed on December 1, officials stated.New born found abandonedA new born infant was found abandoned at the Pandavnagar Health Camp on Saturday.The boy is about 10 days old and was found near the chawl number 13 at the health camp.Chatuhshrungi police suspect that the child was abandoned by an unwed mother. The child was wrapped in a towel.
