Pepsi lands in octroi net
Three days after the octroi department of Pune Municipal Corporation PMC launched its Operation Light8217; to check the increasing cases of octroi evasion, the squad seized a consignment of five big freezers worth Rs 1.62 lakh from Pepsi Cola India Marketing Company, who evaded a paltry duty of Rs 4,877.

The multinational had to pay Rs 44,000 as compounding fee slapped on them by the octroi department. The consignment was seized at Wakdewadi bridge, Additional Municipal Commissioner Deepak Kapoor said.

He has also instructed Pepsi Cola8217;s top officials to attend a meeting on September 24 at the PMC to point out their lapse. If there was further errant behaviour on their part, the PMC would not hesitate in cancelling the account of Pepsi bottles with the civic body, he said.
