Petrol racket busted; 3 held
The crime detection branch of the city police on Sunday arrested three persons involved in adulteration of petrol at a service station on the Pune-Solapur Road.
The police also seized a large quantity of Rexin the fluid used for adulteration of petrol. The fluid was being mixed in tankers carrying petrol at the scooter service station at Mhamadevi chowk on the Solapur Road. The owner of the service station K C Akkalkotkar was absconding.
The persons who have been arrested include Shaikh Abid Ismail, Ahmed Mohammed Khan and Nivas Hindurao Yadav. A team of senior police officials comprising PI Vilas Ghag, PSI Shriram Langhe, Ram Jadhav, Shekhar Tore, raided the service station and arrested the persons.
With the arrest of the persons more cases of adulteration of petrol at various other service stations were likely to be detected, police said.
Auto driver dies
An autorickshaw driver was killed when his vehicle overturned while taking a sharp turn at the Pimpri overbridge on Saturday afternoon. The driver was identified as Sachin Sheshrao Ubale (18), a resident of Mohannagar, Mahatma Phulenagar slums, Chinchwad.
Unclaimed babies
Two unclaimed baby girls were found near the compound of the Dhondu Mama Sathe hospital at Erandwane on Saturday.
The babies aged one and one-and-half years respectively have been admitted to the child care centre of Sassoon Hospital. The Deccan police have appealed to the relatives to contact the Deccan Gymkhana police station.
