PSCB win 1-0, lift maiden title

PUNE, Jan 10: Priyadarshini Sports Centre PSC B8217; bagged their maiden trophy in the junior division as they defeated Champions Club 1-0 in the KUM Industries sponsored Maharashtra Hockey Association MHA Hockey League finals at the PCMC poligras stadium here today.

In the finals of the seniors division Bombay Engineering Group BEG, Kirkee, had a 3-1 win over Old Boys Association OBA. BEG forwards took the lead in the opening minute through centre-forward Lucas Lakra. In the third minute right-in Sandeep Chande took a free hit just outside the circle to the opponents keeper but Lucas got his stick to it for a fine goal. In the first-half OBA played defensively but failed to stop the speedy BEG forwards.

In the 15th minute left-out Naman Bage sounded the board for the second goal on centre-half Ajit Lakra8217;s cross pass. Before the first-half whistle centre-forward Shakti Thakur reduced the margin for OBA. OBA8217;s keeper Ritesh Shetty saved at least five goals.

Sandeep scored the third goal for BEG as the right-out Jasbir Singh sent a cross hit through OBA8217;s defence and Sandeep made no mistake deflecting it into the net.

Earlier, PSC B8217; managed to score a lone goal in the seventh minute through right-out Vinod Kellappan. However, Champions played without their centre-half Vivek Kale due to two yellow cards. Champions only had themselves to blame as their forwards missed a couple of chances. Centre-forward Vishal Puttol of Champions made a fine attempt from the top of the circle but PSC B8217; keeper Ritesh Bashin sent it out. During the sixty minutes play Champions received seven penalty corners but failed to convert.

Chief guests S R Bhatt and Vineet Bhatt gave away the winners trophy while tournament committee chairman Harry Anthony delivered the vote of thanks. MHA secretary Benny Boodle and Jayram Kuchekar were also present.
