Probe ordered into graft8217; charge

CHANDIGARH, June 9: City Mayor Kewal Krishan Adiwal today ordered an inquiry into a fruit seller8217;s complaint that a Municipal Corporation Enforcement Wing employee took Rs 300 without issuing receipt. The incident occurred yesterday when Enforcement Wing staff conducted a raid on pavement vendors in Sector 35.

In a letter to Municipal Commissioner S. K. Gathwal, Adiwal took serious note of a news item published in Chandigarh Newsline in which the fruit-seller, Rajpal, alleged that he was let off after paying Rs 300 for which no receipt was issued. Adiwal asked the Commissioner to complete the inquiry in the shortest period so that action against an erring employee could be initiated.

Talking to Newsline the Mayor said the incident was unfortunate and if confirmed action would be taken against the guilty.
