MUMBAI, July 10: Deputy mayor Gopal Shetty has demanded an inquiry into how 163 municipal employees posted in BMC offices in the western suburbs have been receiving handsome salaries for more than two years without doing any work.

Shetty, who handles the civic water supply and sewerage portfolio, has alleged that 163 employees at Agra Road, Balkum and Powai offices, who come directly under the control of the deputy engineer (water sewerage project) C-1 and CRE, are even unwilling to shift to other departments.

The BMC is spending nearly Rs 10 lakh as their salary, he stated.
