
BHUBANESWAR, May 30: Orissa Telecom Circle has ordered a departmental probe into the allegations of large-scale corruption and siphoning of funds in the Kendrapara Telecom sub-division.
Talking to The Indian Express, the Chief General Manager Telecom in-charge of Orissa Telecom Circle, PC Sahu, said the vigilance team, headed by MF Ali would probe into the corruption charges levelled against Sub-Divisional Officer of Kendrapara Telecom sub-division and his subordinate staff.
Sources said a group of eight linesmen of Kendrapara sub-division, who are in charge of different telephone exchanges, are carrying out various illegal activities and earning huge amounts of money reportedly with the knowledge of higher ups. Though most of these linesmen have been transferred following charges against them, their orders are yet to be carried out for reasons not known. One of the linesmen was allegedly involved in a cable theft worth over Rs 1 lakh from the premises of the exchange.
