Zardari,Taliban meet report is ‘nonsensical’

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari’s spokesperson has denounced reports regarding a meeting between arrested Taliban commanders and Zardari.

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari’s spokesperson Farhatullah Babar has denounced reports regarding a meeting between arrested Taliban commanders and Zardari.

“This is a nonsensical report; it”s absolutely wrong,” The Guardian quoted Babar,as saying.

“There has been no secret contact,no secret meeting. That would go against everything we stand for,” he added while referring to the report of the London School of Economics (LSE),which claimed that Zardari had met Taliban leaders in April and assured them of his government’s support and ‘friendship’.

The report, which has been prepared by Matt Waldman,a former Oxfam official, also claimed that the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) was providing funds and other logistical support to the Taliban.
