At the end of a long and successful season,Sebastian Vettels main focus at the Brazilian Grand Prix is just to try to have a little bit of fun.
Aside from the chance of surpassing Nigel Mansells record for most pole positions in a season, there isnt much else at stake for the 24-year-old German this weekend. We are a bit more open-minded going into the race, Vettel said. The nice thing in the last couple of races is that we had the opportunity to simply enjoy it,there was certainly less pressure.
Vettel won his second consecutive title at the Japan GP,with four races to spare. Now its time to sit back and relax.
When you stand on the grid, look around, see a lot of people, everyone cheering, its great to be a part of that. You realise that you are a lucky man, he said. Those things that maybe sometimes in the heat of the moment you tend to,not forget, but you are so focused, and in that regard you have the ability to explore a little bit more.
He will try to finish with a victory in Brazil, but admits it may be time to start thinking about the off-season. Surely we found a rhythm and had quite good runs and you dont really want this to end, he said. But it has been a long season, dont forget we started more or less in mid January and now its December. Its tough for us,for the whole team,so I think we need a break at some point to get ready for next year.
Vettel has 11 victories in the season so far and admits he is surprised. We need to appreciate that a year like this doesnt come across you every other year. We have been very proud of that. All in all we cant really complain of the results of the races this year.
The season can become more special if Vettel is able to win his 15th pole on Saturday, surpassing Mansells mark set in 1992. It might be possible, but surely there will be a lot of pressure from the other teams, Vettel said. The last qualifying was very close. We will try to have the edge again.
Hamilton fastest in practice
Meanwhile,McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton had the fastest time in practice on Friday, outpacing the Red Bulls of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. Hamilton had a time of 1 minute,13.392 seconds at the 4.3km Interlagos track. Vettel was second in 1:13.559 and Webber third in 1:13.587.
With the title already decided,Sundays race will see a fight for the second place, with Button,Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso and Webber still with a chance to finish runner-up.
