Will-Kate raise 1 mn for charity in just 1 day

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have raised money for the victims of East Africas famine.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were delighted to have raised more than 1 million pounds in a single day for the victims of East Africas famine.

The couple applauded the overwhelming generosity of the British public for the Unicef appeal,but stay hugely concerned for children still at risk.

Prince William and Kate visited the Unicef emergency supply centre in Denmark to make public the plight of East Africa,where 320,000 children are at risk of death.

On that day alone,Unicefs website received 226 percent more visitors and within 24 hours 1million pound was donated,which is enough to feed 100,000 malnourished children for two weeks.

The surprising success highlights the popularity of the royal couple and their ability to help good causes.

Although earlier also they had participated in charity events and generated millions,but those events were aimed at rich,unlike their latest effort where ordinary people were involved.

The Duke and Duchess are delighted to hear of the overwhelming generosity of the British public, the Mirror quoted spokesman for the couple as saying.

They remain hugely concerned for the children still at risk,but view this as extremely welcome news, the spokesman said.

Famine was declared in East Africa,four months ago after the worst drought in 50 years.

So far Unicef has treated 108,000 malnourished children,vaccinated 1.2 million children against measles and provided 2.2 million people with safe water.

We are grateful to their Royal Highnesses and everybody who is digging deep for these children, Unicef UK executive director,David Bull said.

By showcasing the continuing need,their Royal Highnesses are helping to save childrens lives, he added.
