US Sikhs complain of ‘no equal rights’ in India

Sikhs have 'often not' been accorded equal protection under the law,a Sikh advocacy group has claimed.

Sikhs, which are a minority community in every state in India except Punjab, have “often not” been accorded equal protection under the law,a Sikh advocacy group has claimed.

“In India,it is generally difficult for minority communities to receive justice in the court system where corruption often dictates outcome or there are problems with enforceability,” states United Sikhs in a report released in New York on Thursday.

The advocacy group said that the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi are yet to receive justice or compensation and very few perpetrators have been prosecuted.
