On Saturday, for the first time since Virender Sehwag addressed a press gathering in Brisbane and set off a string of stories on infighting in the Indian camp,MS Dhoni told the media that both he and the group of seniors rather enjoy these controversial stories. It8217;s not the first time such a thing has happened, he said. And what8217;s the best thing to do in such a situation? Get the most out of it. We did the most by having fun.
He also said that the recurring press theme of Dhoni versus Sehwag8217;,something that first flared up in the World T20 in England, has become the talking point of the dressing room,in a humorous way. Of course we enjoy it. We try to get the positives out of it, he said. It8217;s worth half an hour of good talk with everyone, because that8217;s the best we can get out of it. It has become the talking point of the dressing room.
But how did the whole misunderstanding happen in the front of the press? Dhoni shrugged. I don8217;t know where it came from. Everything is perfect, he replied. Dhoni explained how press conference answers cannot be written about in isolation, and seen individually can seem out of context. It8217;s important to not see just that particular answer. Maybe the answer is a build-up from the first question. Often,we don8217;t answer the immediate question, but start off from a part of the previous ones. Only looking at the press conference as a whole will give a valid idea of what is being said, said Dhoni.
The captain was asked if the awkwardness between him and Sehwag escalated because of the reports. Not really. A bit awkward initially. You may at times feel that maybe the person is believing what is being said, and the second person thinks may be he has said it, he said. Once you get through the talks and everything happens,it gets back to as smooth as it was.
