Srikanth,Prannoy in QFs

The 18-year-old from Hyderabad had won the bronze medal at the World Championship.

Young Indian shuttlers K Srikanth and HS Prannoy advanced to the quarterfinals of mens singles competition in the Japan Open with superb wins but it was curtains for teen sensation PV Sindhu at the 200,000 Super Series event here Thursday.

World No 56 Prannoy punched above his weight,surpassing Denmarks Jan O Jorgensen,ranked ninth,21-14 13-21 21-17 in a 53-minute match. Srikanth defeated Japans Kazuteru Kozai 21-12 21-16 in just over half an hour in another mens singles match. However,it was end of the road for Sindhu as the 8th-seeded Indian lost 6-21 17-21 to local Akane Yamaguchi.

Indias mens doubles pair of Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy B also could not get across the more experienced combo of fourth seeded Chinese Xiaolong Liu and Zihan Qiu and lost 17-21 16-21 in a 36-minute encounter.

Out of top 10

Olympic bronze medallist Saina Nehwal remained at number four but PV Sindhu lost two places to crash out of the top 10 list in the latest BWF world ranking on Thursday. The 18-year-old from Hyderabad had won the bronze medal at the World Championship to reach the number 10 spot last month,but now she has slipped to the 12th place with 51472 points.
