Six-year-old boy run over by Scorpio reversing out of parking lot in Noida

The boy was reportedly crouching behind the Mahindra Scorpio when the accident took place.

A six-year-old boy was killed in Noida Sector 52 after a Mahindra Scorpio,which was reversing,ran over him.

The boy,identified as Vansh,was playing outside the Durga Shakti Mandir in Ghijor village when the accident took place.

His father Pritam,a resident of the village,is a flower seller and has a shop outside the temple. Senior police officers said the incident took place around 8 am on Thursday.

Vansh was playing in an area where lots of cars are parked. He was reportedly crouching behind the Mahindra Scorpio. Vaibhav,the driver of the Scorpio,did not see the child while reversing the car out of the parking area and Vansh came under the wheels, an officer said.

He said Vaibhav,a resident of Sector 52,owns a watch shop in Connaught Place and had come to the temple with his mother.

Police said Vaibhav immediately took the boy to Life Care Hospital nearby,where he was declared dead on arrival.

He suffered injuries on the head and chest. When the villagers heard about the incident,they created a ruckus outside the hospital and staged a protest outside Sector 24 police station. The Scorpio was vandalised. Police teams had to be rushed in bring the situation under control, the officer said.

Preetam,Vanshs father,said,He was my only son. I have five daughters. He was the hope of my family. I want those responsible for his death punished.

Vishwajeet Srivastava,a deputy superintendent of police said,A case of negligent driving has been registered and Vaibhav,the driver of the Scorpio,has been arrested. Further investigations are in progress.
