Rathore fails to gain numbers at NRAI

Athens Olympics silver-medal winning shooter Rajyavardhan Singh Rathores attempt to be in the reckoning for the upcoming elections

Athens Olympics silver-medal winning shooter Rajyavardhan Singh Rathores attempt to be in the reckoning for the upcoming elections of the National Rifle Association of India NRAI didnt pass the test of votes at the general assembly on Monday. Rathore demanded that the four life and annual members, all of whom are handed voting rights,be elected rather than nominated by the president Raninder Singh.

The NRAI president agreed to put Rathores proposal to vote. However,Raninder retained his right to nominate these members after getting the backing of the general assembly with 523 to 317 votes.

With an independent observer,Justice Retd SK Agarwal present, the votes were cast by the secret ballot.

Rathore is said to have the backing of Bikramjit Singh Majithia, the brother-in-law of Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Rathore questioned the election process in which Raninder was the returning officer. How can a president, who is an affected party become the returning officer. Also the ballots were worded to confuse people. Hopefully, these anomalies will be corrected by the High Court when it hears the petition on March 6, Rathore told The Indian Express.
