Moderate tremor hits Indonesia

A moderate tremor of 5.3-magnitude struck northern Sumatra in Indonesia on Friday evening.

A day after a strong earthquake hit Myanmar that has killed at least 70 people,a moderate tremor of 5.3-magnitude struck northern Sumatra in Indonesia on Friday evening,the Malaysian Meteorological Department said.

The tremor,65-km southwest of Padang Sidempuan,occurred at 5.15 pm. The epicentre of the quake was

located 367-km southwest of Klang,in Malaysia’s Selangor state,the Meteorological Department said in a statement.

There was no tsunami threat,it added.

At least 70 people were killed and 110 injured after the earthquake in northeastern Myanmar last evening. The toll could go up.

The magnitude-6.8 quake shook buildings as far away as the Thai capital Bangkok. Thai authorities said an elderly woman was killed in Mae Sai district after a wall in her house collapsed.
