A 70-year-old NRI plumber has said that masked thugs armed with knives and metal bars raided his home in Birmingham and threatened to kill him in front of his wife during the riots in the UK.
Karnal Singh, who moved to the UK from India nearly 50 years ago, said a gang of six crashed through his front door and ransacked his home while two of his grandchildren,a toddler aged two and a baby aged just three months, were upstairs.
His wife and son were also attacked. Singh said he was hit in the ribs and on his head.
He said,They were shouting ‘give us the money, give us the money,’ and then, held my hands behind my back and threatened to kill me. I can’t explain how I felt when I think of that time. I thought I was finished. Thank God,I’m lucky to be alive and my family are safe.”
According to a report in ‘The Daily Telegraph,’ Singh’s wife,63-year-old Satwant Kaur, was attacked in her bed as the thugs rifled through drawers and cupboards before making off with jewellery. The attackers could not reach his grandchildren upstairs, but left stealing his car.
Singh said,I’ve lived and worked hard in this beautiful country for 48 years, and I’ve never experienced anything like that before.
