Iran doubts China would back new sanctions

Tehran says it8217;s not so sure China would back new sanctions against Iran over its controversial nuclear program. The West fears the program masks ambitions for a nuclear weapon and is pushing for new sanctions. Tehran denies the charge. President Barack Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao discussed Iran at the sidelines of the nuclear conference in Washington on Monday.

Chinese spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said after the meeting of the two 0leaders that 8220;China and the United States share the same overall goal on the Iranian nuclear issue.8221;

Iran8217;s Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast says Tehran doesn8217;t 8220;consider the statement as approval of the U.S. stance and unfair actions.8221;

He told reporters on Tuesday that 8220;our interpretation is different8221; but didn8217;t elaborate.
