Indo-Canadian MP rethinks career after nanny scandal

Indian-origin Canadian MP Ruby Dhalla is wondering whether her political career is over, after allegations surfaced that she ill-treated two nannies at her family home.

Indian-origin Canadian MP Ruby Dhalla is devastated and is wondering whether her political career is over, after allegations surfaced that she ill-treated two nannies at her family home.

Nannies Magdalene Gordo (31) and Richelyn Tongson (37) hired to take care of worlds third hottest politicians mother, have publicly alleged that the MP and her family mistreated them.

Allegations that Dhalla mistreated two foreign caregivers have tainted two Liberal parties with the whiff of scandal, forcing her to quit her post as the Liberals youth and multiculturalism critic, and hitting Dalton McGuintys government with allegations of a cover-up.

Dhalla has denied the allegations and said in a statement on Wednesday that she will work to clear her name.

One of the partys high-profile MPs,she travelled widely to speak at public events, briefly flirting with a run for the leadership, and showed up at the convention in a white stretch limo.

But after a meeting with Ignatieff on Tuesday, she flew home to Mississauga to regroup, with colleagues wondering if her political career is over. Shes devastated, Globe and Mail quoted a friend,as saying.

The MP for Brampton-Springdale is glamorous, energetic and career-oriented. Fellow caucus members also view her as a high maintenance self-promoter,unwilling to do parliamentary drudgery, and demanding with her staff.

I dont get the sense that too many people are feeling all that sorry for her, one MP said.

Two nannies have alleged that Dhalla and her family paid 250 dollars a week for 16-hour days of household chores from shining shoes to shovelling snow and cleaning the familys chiropractic clinics.
