After spending a night at the Punjab Cricket Associations Cricket Club at Mohali, the Faisalabad Wolves shifted back to the hotel in Chandigarh where they had been originally booked.
On Sunday, the Pakistan team, here for the Champions League, had moved to Mohali after it was found that the visiting team didnt have a valid visa to stay in Chandigarh. It was only after the Board Control of Cricket in India BCCI and the Punjab Cricket Association PCA requested the Ministry of Home Affairs that Chandigarh got added to the Wolves officially-approved traveling list.
Talking to the media on the visa issue,Faisalabad Wolves manager Raza Rashid said,We didnt know that Mohali was different to Chandigarh. But all those things are behind us now. The team is quite excited to take part in CL T20 and we will make the most of this opportunity. We might have shifted to the PCA Club for a day,but our focus has always remained on cricket.
PCA joint secretary G S Walia too dismissed the incident by calling it a minor glitch. Since it was Sunday the action could only be initiated late in the evening. Ministry of Home Affairs has now taken the decision. There was no convention of hosting international team at the PCA Cricket Club so we had to shift them to their designated hotel where other squads are also staying. There are no five-star hotels in Mohali and Panchkula and thus the team had to stay at Chandigarh.
Meanwhile, the star players in the Wolves line-up Misbah-ul-Haq,Saeed Ajmal joined the team on Monday after they arrived from Zimbabwe where Pakistan was involved in the Test series.
Sunrisers vs Maroons next
The Qualifiers, that kick off on Tuesday, will seen Wolves taking on New Zealands Otago Volts. This will be followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad playing Sri Lankas Kandurata Maroons.
Sunrisers versus Maroons will be an interesting contest since both the teams have potent bowling attacks. While the Sunrisers bank on their pacers Dale Steyn and Ishant Sharma for early success,Maroons have in their rank world class spinners in Ajantha Mendis and Rangana Herath, who are tough to score against.
The newly-appointed Hyderabad skipper Shikhar Dhawan too will have a point to prove since he is pitted against Kumara Sangakkara, under whom he played in IPL VI. This situation has risen because Sangakkara chose Maroons over Hyderabad.
Sangakkara is a player with a lot of experience. We will definitely miss him but I understand his decision to choose country over club, said Ishant Sharma.
In the batting department,Hyderabad have the upper hand, with players like Shikhar Dhawan,Parthiv Patel,Cameroon White,Darren Sammy capable of chasing down big targets. Maroons have match winners in Upul Tharanga at the top and Sangakkara in the middle.
The other two teams-Faisalabad Wolves and Ontario Volts- too will expect their stars to hit the ground running. For Volts,Brendon McCullum will be vital while Faisalabad will look up to Saeed Ajmal to restrict the fast-scoring Kiwi.
