After successfully hosting Sri Lanka for a limited over series in Karachi and Lahore recently, the Pakistan Cricket Board has been pushing the Sri Lankans to send their team for the Test series as well in December.
Misbah and Waqar have worked together in the past when the former was the Pakistan captain and the latter was the head coach. Misbah will also take over as the chairman of selectors with head coaches of the six first-class associations sides as his fellow selectors.
Earlier in 2017, Sri Lanka played a T20I in Pakistan but the big names refused to participate in the event. Sri Lankan cricketers Upul Tharanga, Lasith Malinga, Niroshan Dickwella, Suranga Lakmal, and Akila Dananjaya had then refrained from playing.
One of the things that goes in favour of Misbah is that he has played with most of the guys in the squad and knows them well. PCB is expected to name the new head coach for the side before the international assignment against Sri Lanka.
