Delhi selectors omit Nehra,then call him

Ashish hasnt been coming for practice,so we were not sure of his availability for the T20 tournament. Also,we felt that his fitness was an issue, chairman of selectors Chetan Chauhan said. However,it was only after the meeting that Chauhan decided to check on Nehras availability.

He claimed that he is fit. So I have told him to produce a fitness certificate and attend practice. We will accommodate him in the team, Chauhan said. The chairman of the selectors confirmed that if Nehra is included in the squad one of the players initially picked in the squad will have to be dropped.

Off-spinner Manoj Chauhan,a player who was found overage while playing under-19 cricket,was also included in the squad.

Reluctant skipper

The selectors also named Mithun Manhas as skipper on an interim basis. Manhas,it is learnt,had already intimated the selectors that he didnt want the added responsibility of captaincy this season. The selectors also overlooked T20 specialists Joginder Singh and Farman Ahmed and dumped wicketkeeper Punit Bisht. Joginder returned figures of 4-1-8-2 in the trial match on Thursday,while Farman hit a 28-ball 42.
