David Warner8217;s Trott comments 8216;disrespectful8217;,says Alastair Cook

But it was Warner8217;s comments in the press conference on Saturday,that under-pressure England8217;s batsman Jonathan Trott8217;s dismissal had been 8220;weak8221;,that attracted Cook8217;s ire.

8220;I think for any professional cricketer,really,yeah,8221; he said when asked if the comment was disrespectful.

8220;On the pitch it8217;s pretty much a war,isn8217;t it anyway? So there8217;s always going to be a few words on the pitch.

8220;I think that8217;s the way people want to watch cricket being played. Tough,hard cricket. On the pitch is fine.8221;

Cook said he thought the testiness between the two teams was the result of playing back-to-back Ashes series this year,a measure taken to take the Australia hosted series out of its place in the calendar next to the limited overs World Cup.

8220;I think when you play each other for quite a few games in a row,the niggles can increase,8221; he said.

8220;It8217;s competitive cricket.8221;

Cook8217;s Australian counterpart Michael Clarke said he thought the sledging came about because both teams wanted to win so badly but that it was not a sign of a lack of respect.

8220;I think we all respect the game,the traditions the history. Australia versus England has always been competitive no matter which team has won.

8220;I certainly understand and respect that there8217;s a line and both teams shouldn8217;t over-step that line and I hope that hasn8217;t been the case through this test match but I think the rivalry and the banter on the field,it8217;s give-and-take both ways,8221; Clarke said.

8220;There is not one English player that anyone has a personal vendetta with or anyone disrespect as a cricketer.

TROTT AFRAID?

Clarke said if there had been a problem with Warner8217;s comments,which also included the observation that there was fear in Trott8217;s eyes when faced with the short ball delivered at pace,they would be dealt with by the ICC.

Australia pace bowler Mitchell Johnson,who dismissed him in both innings,said he thought there maybe was a little fear in Trott8217;s eyes when he ratcheted up the pace.

8220;There were a couple of nice ones that were zinging past his nose,8221; said Johnson,who was named Man of the Match after taking nine wickets including 5-42 in the second innings.

8220;As a fast bowler you give a bit of a stare and have a look into the eyes and 8230; I don8217;t know,there might have been a little bit of fear there,maybe. I don8217;t know,you8217;d have to ask him that.

Cook conceded that Trott had been struggling against the short ball but backed him to recover the form that made him one of the world8217;s best top order batsmen.

8220;You have to remember that the guy8217;s class though. He8217;s had a little blip now in these couple of games but he8217;s a class player and class players bounce back.
